Trying to decide what you should do? Need
more information about a potential career? You used to have to go to the
library and spend hours poring through books--which were often outdated.
Well, it's a new age, and a lot of the
information is now online. The problem is that there are a LOT of career sites out there,
and, frankly, some of them are TERRIBLE. Bad or incorrect advice can be worse than
no advice! Frankly Speaking recommends that you know who sponsors a site. That way
you can determine the potential validity of the information found there.
If you are unsure about where to begin, you
may want to do some interest or temperament assessments/tests first. Also, you may want to
check out some sites with general information about career planning first.

Another recommendation is to
be very careful on the Internet with your TIME. It is very easy to get sidetracked while
surfing for information. Be rigorous in making quick determinations if a site can help you
or not.
- Keep track of your time. We suggest setting
an egg timer or your oven timer to go off after an hour to help maintain your time
- Have a specific goal for the session.
Example: "I am going to find all the sites that can give me information on the
engineering field."
- Bookmark other interesting sites you find
for later sessions
